Radley College 233 for 9 (Sharp 4 for 37, Logan 3 for 33)
SOA 129 all out
A Kiwi, 3 Aussies (including the President) and a Barbadian made the trip to Radley College for SOA’s match against a strong U18 second XI. Last minute selection issues were settled by the late addition into the SOA team of 2 charming pupils, Archie who batted and Billy who bowled.
The injection of youth and overseas were not enough on the day to give your skipper the confidence to elect to bat and so the school teed off… Riley Logan ran in well as did Billy Sharp taking 3 and 4 wickets respectively. Despite their endeavours, and some good bowling from Archie Davis, The Pres and Pat Grimmer, the school reached a very challenging 233 – 9 in the allotted 35 overs.
There were two Oxon O50’s games being played against other school teams that day, both of which had finished their first innings ahead of us and had finished their teas before we got to the pavilion. It compliments the school’s catering department and hospitality that there was still plenty of tea left when we arrived.
The school bowled well, putting early pressure on the visitors. Early wickets fell and 50-5 was always going to be a struggle to build on. Only 3 SOA batsmen passed 20 and none passed 30. With the batting we had on paper this was a disappointment but are opposition seemed delighted to have finished the game off the 29th over and we were consoled with further hospitality from our hosts in the pavilion.
Our thanks to the School, Iain Campbell for arranging the fixture and AJ for umpiring us.
