Kingham Hill School welcomed SOA for the second match in its inaugural cricket week. 

The school pitch is a stunning ground set in raised bank giving it an amphitheatre feel, with a view of the Cotswold Hills beyond. The square was laid in 1911 with wickets lifted from Lords when its own square was replaced at that time. The bounce in 1911 at Lords may have been more even than it was here on the day in June 2026 but the setting and hospitality of our hosts more than compensated. 

Some last minute availability shenanigans led to the inclusion of 2 teachers and a parent of one of the school team joining our ranks. Your skipper offered the school the opportunity to bat and excellent opening spells from Ed Owens and Sifat Habibi took the score to 25-4. The introduction of off-spin from the President and Ciaran Steele then managed to calm the frenetic start. The Pres. bowling 17 overs, taking 2 wickets for a miserly 24 runs. Wickets fell steadily throughout and the innings ended for 148 from 48 overs.

Trevon Burgess and Shiraz Husain batted well to take SOA to 76 for 1 at tea. A brief discussion over cake about when to retire them was followed by an inevitable clatter of wickets. 76 for 2 became 118 for 5 before the drama ended and SOA won by 5 wickets in the 28th over.
