Lost by 2 Wickets
SOA 227 all out (Charlie Hill 88, Kieran Coyne 32, Ed Phillips 32)
Old Bloxhamists 229 for 8 all (Chris Phillips 4 for 44, Craig "The President" Foster 3 for 59)
A good toss to win with an opening bowler having to withdraw last minute due to childcare & an ex president demonstrating bush whacking in the valleys unsure of his ETA. Wildman & Hill started well with the bat putting on 86 for the first wicket. Hill carried on his clean striking eventually out for 88 from 59 balls. After Hill fell at 128 it was left to Coyne to steady the ship and take up the scoring. When the 8th wicket fell at 191 a handy drinks break gave the SOA's very own Alan Titchmarsh time to park his car, run in to the changing room and get padded up. Former Pres Phillips and current Pres Foster put on a very handy 36 for the final wicket (Phillips adding 32 of those). SOA finishing on 227.
In reply it was youngsters all round. 2 young pups from the OB's opening the batting facing the SOA youth policy in James Hart & George Hook. At tea OB's were well set at 50-0 from 5 overs. Some reward for Hook came in the way of a somewhat miraculous catch by the Pres at mid on. A good challenge between bat and ball then ensued with Phillips & Foster bowling tightly and keeping scoring difficult. The father/son duo of John & Dave Best saw OB's close to the finish line with John hitting the winning runs in the final over.
A good game all round for 2 teams who on Thursday had 13 each and by 11am today were somewhere around 10. It's what we love about managing & captaining jazz hat/midweek games. ANYTHING CAN & WILL HAPPEN!
A massive thank you to everyone that made themselves available today and also to Russell Hayes (Scorer) & Big Bad Bobby Belcher (Umpiring)
Shame to lose but a great day out was hopefully had by all.
