Won by 63 Runs
SOA 232 for 5 (Toby Seward 100*, Connor Lamsdale 73)
OU Authentics 169 All out (Fred Witcher 4 for 33)
A scorcher of a day for a game of cricket. Not the ideal start with the bat, Burgess and Grimmer both back in the hutch inside the first ten overs with the score on 10 for 2, Wakefield and Salter doing the early damage.
Enter Toby Seward, who batted as though the thermometer wasn't his problem. He found a willing partner in Connor Lamsdale and the pair put on 153 for the third wicket, Lamsdale eventually falling for a brisk 73 after a top edge was well held behind. Seward carried on regardless, cruising to a well deserved century before retiring not out on 100 to let others have a hit. Shiraz Husain chipped in nicely with 29 and some late order hitting from Witcher and Coates took the total to a healthy 232 for 5 off the 35.
Oxford University Authentics, standing in for the Frogs at short notice and grateful for the loan of Alex Wildman for the day, made a decent fist of the chase. Wildman and McDevitt got them going before Fred Witcher decided he'd had enough of the heat and started knocking players over instead, finishing with 4 for 33 to rip through the middle order. Rohan Narayan-Hull held things together at the other end with an unbeaten 57, watching wickets fall around him as Lamsdale, Seward and Grimmer picked up the rest between them. OU Authentics were eventually all out for 169 in the 33rd over, 63 runs short.
A great effort in the heat, and a big thank you to Oxford University Authentics for making the game happen at such short notice, and to Alex Wildman for turning out for both sides in one afternoon.
Thanks as ever to the scorer and umpires for standing in the sun all day.
A good day out all round.
