SOA 226 for 9 dec (Mallick 52, Aziz 38)
Frogs 229 for 3
Our second game of the week at Queens College saw us host the Frogs. Always a competitive fixture, it was good to see plenty of familiar faces in the Frogs lineup. Winning the toss and batting Shiraz and Ayyaz breezed to 27 without a full shot being played, both batsmen finding the gap superbly before a leading edge saw Shiraz caught. Ayyaz was joined by Junaid for an excellent partnership of 78 broken when Ayyaz was bowled on 52. Three wickets then fell cheaply before Dave Eaton and Alex Wildman had a 68 run partnership, SOA eventually declaring on 226 for nine.
Frogs’ first wicket fell with the score on 10, with Norwyn Kumar finding the edge. A 67 run partnership followed before Anand was again caught by Eaton, this time off the bowling of Ed Wildman. Only one other wicket fell in the Frogs innings, bowled by Dave Eaton, the game being taken away from SOA by a magnificent century from Gorton, winning the game for Frogs with eight balls to spare and finishing on 102 not out off only 62 balls. This century followed his five wickets in the SOA innings, a superb individual performance.
Bob Belcher umpired with Peter Andrews scoring, our thanks go to both of them for adding to what was an excellent game and a fixture we look forward to each season.
