Captain Ed Phillips
Lost by 5 Wickets
SOA 253 for 5 (Alex Ross 82, Ben McCure 76*, Ed Phillips 59)
Devon Dumpling 257 for 5 (Colin Allen 10-3-40-3)
On an excellent looking Exeter pitch, SOA chose to bat first and rattled up an impressive total. Alex Ross led the way with 82 from 86 balls, with one six and 16 fours, so he did not have to do much running! Ben McCure followed up with an unbeaten 76 from 87 balls. He and skipper Ed Phillips (59 off 40 balls) added 97 off 11 overs before declaration at 253-5 after 48.
This looked like a fair declaration, but was made to look generous by a spectacular innings from the Dumplings opener and Exeter's overseas Aashay Dube. Off just 40 deliveries, he smashed 83 as he dominated an opening partnership of 98 from 8.1 overs!
It was plain sailing for the hosts after that, despite an excellent spell of ten overs from the President during which he had three maidens and three wickets. Dumplings, who had some Devon players in their strong side, went on to win by five wickets in the 39th over.
