A dark gloomy day and SOAs men gathered for another game, this time against Tiddington. Ross won the toss with the call “We’ll bat” as the coin was in the air.
With rain around President E. Phillips and V. Connolly opened the batting. Tiddds dangerous Davies opening the bowling and with Phillips struck on the pads first ball Umpire Bob couldn’t give it quicker! 0-1. In came C. North who was also bowled first ball! 0-2. With skipper Ross questioning his selections out went the ever-reliable F. Crouch, alongside youngster Connolly a partnership started to build. Rain then came and we were off the field for an hour. The pair continued to push on after the rain until Connolly fell for 45. With the score now at 103-3 L. North came in and continued to push on. Crouch then fell 4 overs later for a well made 64 North quickly followed 3 balls later for 14. The score was now 128-5 with M. Robey and A. Rahman rebuilding. And kicking on to push us to a declaring score. Rahman finishing 33* SOA declared after 28 overs for 186.
A quick turnaround and N. Bishop (5-10-1) and A. Ross (3-7-1) opened the bowling and kept this tight with attacking fields. L. North (6-15-2) continued to keep things tight and taking a couple of good wickets. Youngster F. Witcher followed on from old man Bish’s end and bowled well with figures of (6-39-2) with the score at 82-6 it was time for experience and the dream team of M. Robey (4-11-0) and C. Foster (4-23-0) bowled well and made things difficult for Tiddington’s batting. With Tidd taking the game deep, V. Connolly (5-23-3) and A. Rahman (3-35-0) the game ended in a draw. With Tiddington finishing 168-9 off 36 overs.
With hands shaken the team retired to the bar and celebrated birthday boys (Sir Les) Craig Fosters 60th.
