In a thrilling encounter at Queen’s College Sports Ground, South Oxfordshire Amateurs CC and Buxton Strugglers CC played out a nail-biting draw on May 29, 2024. The match had everything a cricket fan could ask for: a century, tight bowling, and a dramatic finish.

Buxton CC, batting first, posted a formidable 220/7 declared in 41 overs. The innings was anchored by Harry Griffin, who retired not out on a solid 50, and Jamie Dye, who remained unbeaten on 38. Edward Phillips was the pick of the bowlers for South Oxfordshire, claiming 2 wickets for just 16 runs in his 7 overs, a presidential effort. Alex Basfords bouncer that came back down and bowled the opener another highlight.

In response, South Oxfordshire Amateurs CC put up a valiant fight, thanks largely to a spectacular innings from Swapnil Kulkarni. Swapnil’s majestic 112 was the highlight of the day, showcasing his class and determination in what's expected to be a very big year for him. Despite his heroics, the team fell just short, finishing at 207/7 in 38 overs.

The match ended in a draw, but it was Swapnil’s century that stole the show. His innings was a masterclass in stroke play and resilience, earning him well-deserved applause from both teams and spectators alike on a pitch other struggled to score on.

All in all, it was a day of cricket to remember, as always Dan and his wife put on an amazing tea and bbq and it was great to see everyone. Thanks especially to those that traveled from other counties to be at the game, Alex Basford, Swapnil and Andy Capel. See you all next year.

Oh and Bob... Let's not forget Bob for umpiring so gracefully.
