Won by 6 Wickets
Gaieties 174 for all out (Dawson 4 for 41, Kumar for 29)
SOA 176 for 4 (Stewart-Liberty 53, Mallick 46)
With two games on the same sunny June Tuesday, the diplomatic bag and SOA flag were on display for the Gaeities match at Queens College a mile or to the south of the SOA team playing St Edwards school.
Gaeities won the toss and unsurprisingly elected to bat on a hard dry track. On his debut, Norwyn Kumar opened the bowling for SOA from the Pavilion End with Danny Dawson running in from the Tennis Courts end. Norwyn’s second over saw some seam movement to discomfort and then bowl Pitlarge for the first of his three wickets. The familiar figure of Junaid Aziz batted superbly for his 68 before succumbing to the wily spin of Craig Foster, Danny taking an excellent catch over his shoulder to remove him. After some excellent top order batting, the Gaeities fell away in dramatic fashion from 173 for 5 to 174 all out in 32 overs. The pick of SOA’s bowling was Danny Dawson who finished with four wickets. In addition to Kumar’s three, Alex Basford, Mike Barrow and Craig Foster took a wicket apiece.
The President and Ayyaz opened the account for SOA with a solid 33 run partnership. Ayyaz eventually falling on 46 having set up an excellent platform for the innings to accelerate. The winning runs were compiled in 29 overs, SOA‘s top scorer was Tom Stewart-Liberty, on debut, who was eventually stumped for an excellent 53.
As always we were exceptionally well looked after at Queens by Danny, our thanks also go to Bob Belcher for umpiring and Alex Blythe for scoring.
