SOA v St Edward's Martyrs, Wednesday 10 July 2013

Post date: 15-Jul-2013 13:06:10

St Edwards Martyrs 219 all out - 47.1 overs (Wes Morrick 3-41, R Willis 100)

SOA 220-7 - 49.5 overs (R Buchanan 67 n.o. H Ward 42, B Henderson 40)

On a sunny day at the lovely School ground, the Martyrs chose to bat. Wes Morrick was soon amongst the wickets, reducing them to 14-3, then Willis steadied the ship to make an excellent 100, until tempted once too often by the promising young all rounder Llyod Belcher. The Martyrs were all out for 219, ahead of their ideal time. This gave the SOA time to chase down the score, with a young Martyrs team at full tilt trying to stop them. Ward and Henderson put on 80 odd together but with Morrick sixth out at 120 and still 100 needed, there was plenty to do. The opening bowlers came back off their full runs but first Warry and then suprisingly the stump high young Belcher proved solid partners to Buchanan, who nudged and thumped his way over the finishing line with an over in hand. All had enjoyed a wonderful days cricket played in the very best of spirits, Martyrs skipper Alex Smith well worthy of a mention in this regard, who then continued to show himself of good character and a natural leader of his men until late that evening in the Dew Drop Inn nearby.
