SOA v Melbourne XXIX Club, Friday 12 July 2013

Post date: 14-Jul-2013 14:49:41

The latest of the many sporting encounters between the SOA and its Australian off-shoot, the Melbourne Cricket Club XXIX Club, took place on Friday at The Queen's College sports ground in Oxford. In Australian friendly conditions, a 35 over game was played to allow time for the now traditional Thames river trip afterwards.

With many of the touring team still suffering from a quiet evening out at Tiddington the evening before, SOA took advantage with a brisk start and pushed on to an impressive 260 for 7 at the close (Frederick Price 92, Russell Hayes 60). The XXIXers were always behind the required rate and finished on 219 for 6 thanks to a late 50 from Huddart.

Fish & chips was served later on the river trip and the SOA were treated to a rendition of the XXIX club song, which you too can enjoy here.

It is always an honour to host the XXIX club and this was the latest successful event. Photos from the river trip can be found here. Thank you to Steve Wilson and Colin Bedford for all their organisation.
