This is proving to be a bumper season of SOA cricket - don't forget you can keep up to date with results and news on the SOA website (http://www.soacc.co.uk/home). Folllowing the President's Match today at Sandford SOA have a match every day over the next 2 weeks with just a break on the Saturday for league games so plenty of opportunity to drop in and watch a game.

Note the venue for tomorrow's match (Mon 23rd July) has been switched to Queens College just up the Abingdon Road from the original venue. We are hosting Goodwood CC on tour from South Australia. A BBQ is being provided post match and all members invited.

Later this week on Friday Oxford Downs host the SOA. This is always a keen match which always draws a large crowd of members. I understand a Hog Roast is being provided post match and all members again warmly invited by our hosts.

The Devon Tour Committee have been very successful in signing up players to join the tour starting Tues Aug 21st. If you considering joining the annual tour but have not yet confirmed your place please contact a member of the tour committee (fixture card has details) by this Tuesday (24th July). This is only 4 weeks before the tour starts and the committee will be finalising teams very very soon.

SOA Youth Cricket Sports Charity - Richard hands on the baton. The SOA charity, which gives financial support to young players to enable them to join us on tour has come a long way since it was founded over 10 years ago by Ralph Cobham and a group of SOA trustees. One of those was Richard Allan, who for the past six years has guided the trustees as chairman and source of wisdom and judgement that has been a great service to SOA. His term of office is now over and the trustees have recorded their appreciation of his valued contribution to the charity which is now in a position to fund tour bursaries for the foreseeable future.

His place as chairman has been taken by Paddy Daniel, last year’s SOA president whose fund raising made a major contribution to securing the charity’s future. Andrew Moss continues as treasurer for one more year, while Dan Hawes has been invited to become a trustee, joining Alex Wildman, Steve Wilson and Mark Robey.

New chairman Paddy Daniel said: “Richard has been an outstanding chairman. In his quiet way he helped us to reach sound decisions on investments and gave all of us the chance to contribute to discussion and shaping plans for the future.”

So plenty more cricket to come ! I hope to see many of you at a game in the near future.
