Bike Ride Raises Cash for SOA Charity

The SOA Youth Cricket Sports Charity has had another successful year, thanks partly to a challenging 1,000 mile bike ride by two of the club’s veterans. Club treasurer Andrew Moss and his wife Sue (a regular supporter and occasional scorer) cycled from Roscoff in Brittany to Santander in Spain, including climbing the Col d’Aubisque, in the Pyrenees, one of the legendary mountain climbs of the Tour de France.

Thanks to generous support from club members, they raised £1,065, which has boosted the charity’s assets to more than £14,000. This year (2013) president-elect Andrew (AJ) Smith is tackling an even more ambitious ride from Warsaw to England in aid of the charity.

Income from investments, donations and gift aid brought the total raised in 2012 to £2,346. The charity was pleased to be able to support five young players with bursaries totalling £480 for the western tour. Their presence greatly added to the quality and athleticism of our performances and they fitted in well with the touring party.

We continue to work towards our goal of a fund of £20,000 which will enable us to provide bursaries for young players on tours in England and abroad for the foreseeable future.

The Trustee’s report and accounts for 2012 are shown in the SOAYCSC section on this website.
